Speakers & Breakout Topics

Creating The Total Health Care Team: True tales from the chair and the laboratory

Dr. Martin R. Mendelson
(Sponsored by Vident)

There is no I in TEAM but there is ME! Are you partnering with your laboratory technician as a true member of your team or is it all about ME? Are you communicating with your technician in a subjective or objective manner? Do you expect the technician to work miracles or be a mind reader?

This light hearted approach looks at the relationship between the dentist and the lab from the perspective of someone who has been the communicator from both sides. We will explore mechanisms and systems from the initial exam to help increase the predictability and consistency of your laboratory fabricated restorations.

Lastly we will discuss effective color communication. Regardless of the material selected, the only area in dentistry that even an untrained eye can identify as questionable with a tooth is the shade. What are the three factors that will determine predictable success in shade selection and color communication? Understanding color, understanding what influences our perception of color and utilizing this knowledge for predictable step-by-step shade taking.

"Crystaleye" Dental Color Analysis System

(Sponsored by Olympus)

In recent years there has been increasing demand for aesthetic dental treatmentusing dental prostheses. This has created a need for tools capable of providing precise color information about patients’ teeth. Traditionally dentists and dental technicians have obtained tooth color information through visual examinations using color samples known as "shade guides". With this method, the information cannot be conveyed accurately to the technicians who produce the prosthesis. Color mis-matching between prosthesis and patients’ teeth may necessitate the remaking of prostheses.

The "Crystaleye" is an extremely precise dental color analysis systembased on original optical technology developed by Olympus. It can accurately analyze tooth colors simply by photographing the patient’ steeth. Prostheses manufactured in the laboratory can bephotographed in a specially designed dental jaw model, allowing comparisons in the same environment as in the oral cavity.

(Sponsored by Septodont)

People are talking about the N’Durance Composite from Septodont. Finally a composite that is unlike anything on the market. N’Durance has all the excellent handling and esthetic qualities that are expected – but it’s the Dimer-Acid chemistry that makes it perform different from the other composites. N’Durance polymerizes deeper and shrinks less – therefore no Post-operative sensitivity, longer wearing composites and more satisfied patients. Scientific, clinical and product perspectives will be presented which will demonstrate how this new composite can benefit your practice and patients.
