Inlays/onlays

Inlays and onlays are recommended when only partial restoration of a posterior tooth is required. Adhesive technology required.

  1. Conventional and high strength milled ceramic inlays/onlays are not recommended.
  2. Pressed ceramic inlays/onlays are an ideal material when a ceramic is desired for durability or when opposing other ceramic restorations. Layering is generally not possible due to the conservative nature of the restoration.
  3. High strength pressed ceramic inlays/onlays can be used is high stress areas and when esthetic demands are not as critical.
  4. Indirect composite inlays/onlays are indicated when optimal esthetic results are required because layering is easily accomplished. It may also be indicated when less wear of opposing natural teeth is desired.
