April 10th, 2026
Course Instructors:
Bruce Crispin/ Brad Eli
Synopsis
In most dental schools, the curriculum on restorative occlusion has transitioned into the management of symptoms. As a result, most dentists are undertrained and often confused about what is important in restorative occlusion.
This 2 session Tract has been developed to teach dentists what is important to know in restorative occlusion and how to apply this knowledge. It is essential that every dentist knows how to minimize restorative failures, prevent and control pain plus prevent unnecessary tooth wear simply by learning the fundamentals of restorative occlusion

“Introduction to the concept of Joint and Muscle Sprain Strain (JAMSS), and iatrogenic complications associated with dental care.”
Lecturer – Brad Eli
The goal of this training is to teach the dental provider how to prevent JAMSS in the first place and to deal effectively with JAMSS if it does occur. The presentation will discuss frontline care for common TMJ disorders and will simplify decision criteria to provide temporary splints vs. bruxism mouthguards vs custom TMD oral appliances. This presentation will highlight when to refer to an orofacial pain specialist.
“Parafunction vs. Pathological Parafunction (a patient that “breaks”
restorations)”
Lecturer – Brad Eli
The goal of this training is to introduce the Parafunction Risk Rating Protocol as a tool for a dental provider to screen active (today vs. in the past) parafunctional risk. This simple protocol is designed to help a patient understand and accept their bruxism and accept the recommendations that the dentist is making whether choice of materials in treatment planning, recommendation to wear a protective nightguard, or informed consent if the patient breaks the restorations. Dr. Eli also developed this protocol to help a general dentist identify high risk patients that should be referred to
specialists.
