INTRODUCTION

Implant dentistry has had more impact on restorative dentistry than any other development in the last three decades. The placement of implants has historically been the domain of surgeons but for the last 10+ years, the placement of implants by general dentists has become very common.

With the development of 3D imaging and surgical guides, implant placement in acceptable boney sites is now very predictable and does not require advanced surgical training in many instances. The fear of negative consequences has been significantly reduced.

The purpose of this introductory course is to present an overview of implant placement from diagnosis to placement. It is designed for the dentist that wants to get started in implant placement.
